Example 4 A large cone truncate needs to be manufactured for use on the bottom part of the dust extraction cyclone.
With the use of CALDsoft, the cone was initially unfolded with 3 axial divisions (overlapped cones) and 4 radial divisions (90 degree segments).
However, only flat metal sheets of 3200mm x 3200mm are available. Based on the first calculation, we notice that the minimum sheet dimensions to match with the flat patterns are:
As a result, we noticed that for upper and intermediate cone, only 4 radial divisions are not enough to get flat patterns that fit into the 3200 x 3200 metal sheets. This way, we changed radial divisions for these 2 cones and we optimized material consumption with minimum of longwise welding.
To support on the cone manufacturing process, CALDsoft presents on the flat pattern printing, the distance between contacts on the calendering process.
